Recently it was discovered that the tallest building in the world - the Burj Dubai - had been the scene for a world record (and highly illegal) BASE jump. 1 British man attempted the jump and was successful, while a second man, a Frenchman, was caught before he could jump. They were both arrested and held in Dubai. What is not known to either the authorities or the world in general, is that 2 men had already succeeded in climbing the tower and base jumping from it without being caught: another Brit and the same Frenchman who was later caught attempting a second jump. They were the first and have gone down as legends in their sport, for claiming the latest jewel in the crown of the sport. This is the story of that jump. Video Rating: 4 / 5

ITV News Base Jumpers Jump off world's tallest building The Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai Omar Al Hegelan and Nasser Al Neyadi leapt 2205 feet from the top of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai before free-falling for 10 seconds then deploying their parachutes. It was the world's highest jump from a man-made structure. Both men are expert skydivers and obtained permission from the Dubai authorities to jump from the tower. Al Hegelan began Base jumping in 1997 and has made over 15000 sky dives. He told Sky News: "It was amazing, one of the most beautiful sensations I've ever experienced. "We did it legally, we did it safely and we set a new world record. "It took months of planning and we had to obtain permission from the UAE government, but we showed that safe, legal Base jumps are possible from the Burj Khalifa." The Burj Khalifa cost .5bn (£936m) to build and is the tallest man-made structure on earth at 828m (2717ft). The word 'Base' refers to the structures jumpers leap from: Building, Span, Antenna, Earth.

Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي‎ "Dubai Tower"), a supertall skyscraper under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 818 m (2684 ft). BBC News Base Jumpers Jump off world's tallest building The Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai Dubai: An Emirati man has set a new world record for base jumping after parachuting from the top of the Burj Khalifa. The developer of the Burj Khalifa confirmed that they permitted the man to jump off the tower, which had a grand opening ceremony on Monday. Nasr Al Niyadi and his skydiving trainer Omar Al Hegelan made a perfect landing after jumping from the 160th floor of the world's tallest building on Tuesday afternoon. The duo, from the Emirates Aviation Society, fell 672 metres (2205 feet) at a speed of 220 kilometres per hour in under one and a half minutes. Al Niyadi described the feat "as the best experience ever". He said: "When we were at the top of the building I was thinking this is crazy'. I was a little nervous but I wanted to jump from the highest tower in the world to record an achievement for my family and for my country. "As soon as we reached the ground I looked up and just thought wow'. I have completed over 2700 jumps but this was the most amazing." BASE jumping, an extreme sports activity, refers to the four categories of fixed objects from which one executes the jump — buildings, antennas, bridges or spans and cliffs or earth. Al Niyadi and Al Hegelan, who are both members of the Fazza Sky Team, covered the distance in a breathtaking 10 second freefall delay and 30-40 second parachute flight. They set a new world record by jumping from the highest point of ...
